DESIGN CHALLENGES

Here are some design challenges created in about an hour exploring rhetorical and historical imaging, color, and Gestalt Principles.

RHETORICAL IMAGING

HISTORICAL IMAGING

A Vintage Ad for Pain Medication

At the time this image was created, women riding bikes was scandalous because it required a fashion change (trousers and boots) that "exposed" women's bodies and sexualized them.
The leftover baggage that comes with this image is the issue that even today, advertisements are geared toward the male gaze and often use women as sexualized props. What does this say about modern advertising? Why is it over a hundred years later ads still are clearly aimed at men and young boys using sexual imagery?
